Summer is finally here! If you already own a backyard pool, you are in good shape! Demand for new pools has been non stop since last year, and they are being installed and constructed at record levels.

Have you read our recent blog about the current state of the pool and spa industry? So if you’re one of the many current pool owners, congratulations! You’re ahead of the game!

This surge in new pools has also resulted in a significant increase in the volume of requests we are receiving for pool openings, service, and maintenance. Our highly skilled service technicians are working incredibly long hours to ensure that your pools are in excellent working condition all summer long.

That said, here are some important suggestions for keeping your pool at peak performance.

Keep Your Pool Water Circulating and Balanced

Keeping your water filtered is one of the best ways to keep your pool clean and avoid unnecessary issues. If possible, we recommend circulating your water at all times, but if that is not possible for you, we strongly encourage you to let it run at least 10-12 hours a day.

Of course, by filtering out debris and organics, this also requires regular care and cleaning of your filters. In fact, dirty filters are the leading cause of equipment problems! It’s also a good idea to check the condition of your cartridge material (sand, DE, etc.) and replace old material.

Using Chlorine Effectively

Some of you may have heard the news about a chlorine shortage this year. While there are certain types of chlorine products that will be in short supply this season, there are also many ways you can get more effective use from chlorine.

Yes, we are asking customers to limit their purchase of certain chlorine products to their immediate needs, but heeding some of these important chlorine-saving techniques will go a long way to ensure your pool is sanitized all season long. Optimizer Plus (20% off this month) is a great pool conditioner and customers who use this product rarely have chlorine demand issues.

Remember the 3-Step Pool Care System

The 3-Step Pool Care program is: Sanitize, Oxidize, and Prevent Algae. The third step, Preventing Algae, becomes more important than ever in a season like this one. Be sure to add algaecide to your pool regularly to help prevent algae blooms that could put your pool into a chlorine demand. Our water care experts can help you determine the best algaecide for your pool and we have a good supply of algaecides available online and in our stores.

Test Your Water Regularly

Take advantage of our free, state-of-the-art water testing. We use the most advanced technology to test your water accurately and provide you with recommendations to help keep your pool water balanced. We recommend testing at least once a month to ensure that you head off any water issues before they become a big problem.

Scheduling Service

If you have an equipment malfunction and need professional attention, the best way to contact us is by submitting a service request form. This form provides our service department with important data about your pool system and saves time in trying to communicate this through back and forth phone calls or messages. Once this form is received, our Service Manager will schedule your service appointment at the earliest possible opportunity.  Our service philosophy is: Keep it Simple. Do it Fast. Get it Right. Be Kind.  We will always do our best to live by these words. We value the trust you put in us to keep your pool in excellent working condition.

Regular Maintenance

Due to overwhelming demand, we are currently on Wait List Mode for regular pool maintenance agreements. For this reason, it is more important than ever to be watchful and vigilant about proper water care and pool filtration to keep your pool at peak performance. Bring water in for testing monthly and apply algaecide products regularly. If you would like to be added to our wait list for ongoing maintenance, please complete the pool maintenance agreement form and email it to [email protected] along with information about type of filter system you use (sand, DE, etc.) and type of chemicals you use (chlorine, salt, bromine).

Now you know how to keep your pool at peak performance all season long. If you run into issues or have questions, we are always here to help! Thank you for trusting Arvidson Pools and Spas.
